Welcome to The Portfolio of Chris Cervantez

I have always loved websites. My first website was in the late 90's on Geocities. I still can remember the address (http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Lights/1669). Thinking back, it's amazing on how far I've come. Although my first websites didn't validate or look as stunning as some of the more recent ones I've done, they still had a general theme and paid attention to detail. My websites included one called "The Spot" and another was an ICQ List, which listed friends and other people who wanted their ICQ information to be listed on the web.

I have had a lot of experience, but I am still learning and like any good web developer, I forever will be. There is so much to be discovered and so much knowledge to take in. I am expreienced with the following programs and languages: Dreamweaver, Photoshop, CSS, XHTML, Fireworks, Flash, PHP, ASP, XML, Javascript and many more. I also now know about Web Accessibility and how to make your site accessible to everyone.

The following represents my website portfolio. It includes work from both the CMWEB classes and work I have done on my own. Although many backups were made, much of my previous work in the CMWEB classes prior to 2011 has been lost. I have decided to not edit any of my previous work in order to accurately show my progression. Please take a look at my work, I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised. I have also included printable PDF screenshots of every website.

Thanks,
Chris

Class Work

CSS Zen Garden - CMWEB 220 Project 1 | Printable PDF
-This was Project 1 for this class. The idea was to edit the CSS file and make your own design for the website, without editing the HTML. I think this turned out to be a pretty cool site for not editing the HTML!

Web Accessibility! - CMWEB 150 Project 2 | Printable PDF
-This was Project 2 for the CMWEB 150 class, which dealt with accessibility. All pages in this are valid XHTML, the CSS is valid and there are no Section 508 violations. This was my first real project using an unordered list as horizontal navigation and I think it pops!

Outside Work

102.5 WJRE | Printable PDF
-This website was created for Virden Broadcasting Corporation in 2001 out of Kewanee, Illinois. This website was created prior to my courses at ICC. At the time, the radio stations did not really have an official website presense. This website was created as an unofficial website, but soon became the official website. This website incorporates PHP, Javascript and at one time used Flash to introduce the new songs of the week. Because of a format change to Country music, the website no longer exists and is no longer updated.

Say It! Signs & Screenprinting | Printable PDF
-This website was created in 2004 for Say It! Signs & Screenprinting out of Kewanee, Illinois. This website was created prior to my courses at ICC. At the time, I was charging a flat rate of $25 an hour for web design. Because I was still learning, I submitted 4 hours for a total of $100. The owner of the business misunderstood and thought she owed me $100 an hour, rather than $100 total, and she was willing to pay that much! The website ceased to exist in 2005 or 2006, due to a reduction of services the owner wanted to offer.

RDS List | Printable PDF
-This website was created in 2004 as a hobby website. This website was also created prior to my courses at ICC. If you know me, you know that I am a radio enthusiast! I have worked in radio for over 10 years and I am also a member of the Worldwide TV-FM DX Association (WTFDA). I created this website to list all the stations that carry RDS or the Radio Data System. This website had an overwhelming response and soon grew to 1,500 stations. Because at the time I was unfamiliar with databases, there are no databases involved in this website, which make it very difficult to maintain. Because of other obligations, I decided to discontinue further updates on this site until I am able to put it into a database, which I am still planning to do. This website was mentioned in several newspapers all across the country and also mentioned as a reference in several FCC documents.

93.9 WYEC | Printable PDF
-This was another website designed for Virden Broadcasting Corporation. It was designed in 2003 and passes XHTML validation with 1 warning. This was another website done before I started classes at ICC. This is still one of my favorite designs, although it no longer exists on the web.

Faith Lutheran Church | Printable PDF
-This website was created in 2005 for Faith Lutheran Church in Kewanee. It went through a redesign in 2008. The redesign addressed some major issues with what I had learned in some of my courses at ICC. When the page was made live, all pages and CSS passed XHTML and CSS validation. That still holds true for a lot of the pages, but since the pastor wanted a lot of the control, errors were made in the code. I have regained full control of the website, since the previous pastor left. I plan to update it soon.
